Actually, just misty. Last night Will and I had the great pleasure of joining our friend and neighbor Gabriel Cohen (along with a few dozen of his other friends and colleagues) to help celebrate the release of his third novel, The Graving Dock. Given the nautical New York theme of his book, Gabriel decided to host the reception aboard the Manhattan, a small Chris-craft type of yacht. The 40-odd of us sipped wine and enjoyed a private tour of New York Harbor, with misty, close-up views of the Statue of Liberty (trivia: it’s technically in New Jersey), Governor’s Island, the Red Hook waterfront (setting of Gabriel’s first novel), the Brooklyn Navy Yards, and the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges. Along the way we listened to some excerpts from the book, question-and-answer sessions, and general lore about Brooklyn’s waterfront. It was a perfect evening of insider-tourism.
