In March 2008 we traveled to/around France a bit. We spent most of our time daytripping around Burgundy, but we ended with a quick visit with a friend of Will’s in Paris. We were very short on time, so Nate graciously took us on an extensive walking tour of the city at night. The weather was blustery (to the point of blowing trees down) and rainy, so the streets were nearly deserted, and the air had a weird glow from the city lights reflecting off the low clouds. I’ve always been fond of this picture I snapped of a church along our walk, but I failed to make note of which church it is. Is there anyone out there with a superior knowledge of Paris who can identify it?

Notre Dame? I’m fairly certin that’s right. You are such a world travler. How do you do it?

No, it’s definitely not Notre Dame, though if memory serves, it was nearby. And I wish I were more of a world traveler…as it is I barely get out of the US once a year.

From Nate: It’s the Sainte Chapelle, surrounded by the Palais de Justice.

Thanks, Will/Nate!

Now that I look closer I’m not so sure those are flying buttresses. Or are they? I can’t tell. Someone ask Nate!

No flying buttresses, but Ste Chapelle’s walls, I now remember, are almost entirely stained glass. I regretted not making it there during the day. Notre Dame does have the buttresses.
